On crisp autumn nights, the Aurora, the moon and the stars light our way. The northern lights have been in existence since the earth formed an atmosphere, and shine most intensely in this region.
You’ll have an exclusive, front row seat for nature’s own light show after dark as the Aurora fills the night sky, reflecting off the shimmering waters of Blachford Lake.
Blachford Lake Lodge – a unique fly-in resort – provides you with the chance to enjoy a pristine environment with comfortable facilities, wonderful vegetarian food and various activities all designed to ignite the light within. Relax and explore the lodge that Their Royal Highnesses Prince William and Kate Middleton visited during their trip to Canada’s North.

Departing Yellowknife at 11 am, fly to Blachford Lake Lodge, a 25-minute charter flight, to arrive at the lodge for lunch. Located on a remote jewel of a lake set in Precambrian rock, this spacious, handcrafted log lodge offers a blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. Hearty vegetarian meals are prepared by a talented chef, and the cozy Aurora lounge offers a retreat in the evenings. Throughout our 3 day/2 night stay, enjoy a variety of activities: practice Yoga and meditation daily, embark on guided excursions, head out on hiking trail, and discover the awe-inspiring Northern Lights. Our stay concludes after lunch on Sunday, with our flight back to Yellowknife, arriving at 2 pm.

Tips & Recommendations
Getting to Yellowknife
Yellowknife is the capital and only city, as well as the largest community in the Northwest Territories (NT or NWT), Canada. It is located on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake, approximately 400 km (250 mi) south of the Arctic Circle. You’ll want to fly here and can get here directly (or by a single connection) from Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver & Ottawa, or Toronto. You are are asked to arrive by Thursday, September 21st, overnight in Yellowknife and consider booking your return flight for Monday, September 26th, unless you’d like to extend your stay.
Once you’re here, there are ample choices of accommodation, from Airbnb, bed & breakfasts, & numerous hotels. Below are the ones recommended that you look into booking in advance, bearing in mind you are responsible for ensuring your accommodations are booked.
Bed & Breakfasts:
AirBnB/Yellowknife (a couple are actual house boats for an utterly unique experience!!); Sean’s Guesthouse & Aurora Chasing (amazing website!); Narwal Northern Adventures (MORE than a b & b!); Bayside Bed & Breakfast; Jenny’s B & B; Sunshine B & B; Embleton House; and owned by Blachford Lake Lodge’s Mike Freeland & wife Tessa, Blue Raven Bed & Breakfast. All recommended accommodations are an easy cab ride or perhaps even a walk to the Air Tindi float base.
The Explorer Hotel, Chateau Nova Hotel (the newest hotel in town!), Coast Fraser Hotel, and Days Inn & Suites are relatively close to the Air Tindi float base, where you’ll be flying out of to get to Blachford Lake Lodge. Please note that you’re advised to use TripAdvisor.ca, Expedia.ca, or Booking.com to get the best prices.
Things to Do in Yellowknife
You may well wish to extend your stay a few days – either arriving early or staying a few days after the retreat, in order to fully appreciate all that our beautiful northern capital has to offer. Autumn will be in full swing, so expect just about anything with regards to the weather! It may well snow at some point, so please be prepared for it. The best way to know what to expect is to regularly check Environment Canada’s website for weather in Yellowknife.
The sky above Yellowknife and surrounding area is said to feature visible aurora 218 days of the year! (Considering that it doesn’t get dark between June and July, that’s a very high percentage and solid odds to see them in September!) While talented and practiced, Devinder is also thoroughly accredited – she is a 500 Hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher in the Hatha and Kundalini Yoga traditions. She is an Ottawa Hatha Yoga Teacher Trainer and is recognized as the Kundalini Yoga Lead Trainer in the Ottawa region, as certified by the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI). Devinder is also honoured to serve as member of the Kundalini Research Institute (KRI) Board of Directors.
She is a registered member of Yoga Alliance, the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Associations (IKYTA), the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT) and the Sound Healers Association. Dev Suroop Kaur delights in sharing the pure practicality of nurturing a successful and deeply authentic life. An accomplished musician, recording artist, and Lead Trainer in the KRI Aquarian Trainer Academy, Dev Suroop Kaur strives to break it down, keep it real, and guide students to their own empowered authenticity. Blessed to study directly with Yogi Bhajan for much of her adult life, she gratefully shares what she has learned – and continues to learn – about how to love, work, and live better in the world. She deeply enjoys training students and teachers of Kundalini Yoga in the science of Naad Yoga, women’s teachings, and how to access the beauty and power of their personal voice. She currently lives with her husband in Espanola, New Mexico and, in addition to her teaching and music activities, works to maintain a peaceful mind as a business executive.
Dhanraj Kaur (Maureen Tonge)
When you attend one of Maureen’s classes, you will be encouraged to listen to your body’s needs but simultaneously be asked to challenge yourself to always do your best – whatever that might look like that day! Maureen takes to heart Yogi Bhajan’s expression: “Keep Up and You will be Kept Up!”
Known for her genuine passion for “all things yoga”; her enthusiasm, positive energy and good-natured humour, Maureen considers it an honour to make her classes fully accessible to all levels of experience and ability. Maureen began her yoga journey twenty years ago but it was only after serendipity intervened that she realized that Kundalini Yoga and Meditation was to be her primary path. With well over 1000 hours of training in Kundalini Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Yin Yoga as a 500 hr Canadian Yoga Alliance experienced and certified teacher, Maureen is blessed to be able to share her knowledge and experience as a member of a not-for-profit co-operative, Collective Soul Space, as well as teaching yoga at a local high school in Yellowknife, NWT.
